The customer for this Solar Panels Richmond installation was already a convert to renewable energy and had an existing solar thermal system installed on this property. This had not been working as desired. Though not installed by us, we were asked to address this problem as well as design and install a new solar PV system.
Firstly, we supplemented the existing thermal system with an ImmerSun unit which would divert any surplus electricity generated by the new solar PV system into the immersion heater, thereby maximising the proportion of energy used on site.
The next step was to install a solar PV system and by using the high efficiency Panasonic modules we were able to accommodate 12 panels across both the south and west facing pitches. We used the Solar Edge inverter system which, rather than providing one inverter for the whole system, provides individual inverters to each panel, the advantages of which are as follows:
Higher yields thanks to their voltage optimiser units which means that output from each of the solar panels is independent from that of any other panel. This eliminates loses due to inherent module mismatch and partial cloud shading.
Safe DC voltages of only 1v per optimser in the event of loss of AC power. Module level monitoring and performance data available via the Solar Edge monitoring portal.
